The procession, which coincides with the Catholic feast of the Assumption of the Virgin<\/strong>, is one of the most important and emotional religious events of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

History of Virgen de los Reyes<\/h2>\n

Devotion to the Virgin of the Kings dates back to the 13th century<\/strong>, when King Ferdinand III of Castile\u2014later Saint Ferdinand\u2014offered the sacred image to the city. Since then, the Virgin has been considered the protector of Seville, kept inside Seville Cathedral<\/strong> and carried in procession on rare occasions. The 15th of August is undoubtedly the most notable occasion.<\/p>\n

What to expect during the procession<\/h2>\n

The procession begins around 8:00 in the morning<\/strong> to avoid the intense summer heat. The image, dressed in rich embroidered robes and surrounded by silver candelabra, slowly makes its way around the perimeter of the cathedral.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere is overwhelming: the ringing of bells, the aroma of incense and the respectful silence of the crowd create a unique atmosphere. Priests, civil authorities and members of uniformed bodies accompany the Virgin in a scene that has hardly changed in centuries.<\/p>\n

How to get there from Casa del Poeta<\/h2>\n

    2. Walk straight ahead<\/strong>, following the Giralda, which will guide you.<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. When you arrive, the Plaza Virgen de los Reyes<\/strong> will open up before you, right in front of the door of the Cathedral from where the procession departs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      It is only a 5-7 minute walk through narrow<\/strong>, charming streets, where you may already hear the cathedral bells ringing.<\/p>\n
