When was Feria born?
Feria dates back to Alfonso X the Wise period, who in the XVI century decided to approve cattle fairs twice a year, in April and the other one, San Miguel fair, in September.
Both fairs were forgotten over the years, until one day in the year 1846 , two councilmen of Basque and Catalan origin , they have the great idea of restoring April Feria , so San Miguel one was postponed. In their origins it took place at Prado de San Sebastian with 19 tents, it had a high attendance. Over its history it was moved a couple of times until now that it is located at Los Remedios fairground.
What can we discover in Feria?
April Feria is held some weeks after Holy Week and it is spring most important festival in Spain. The fairground is embellished with different colored paper little lanterns and lights, giving more than a thousand tents distributed over 450.000m2 a magical touch.
Tents are small house shaped structures covered with canvas where you can enjoy live performances of flamenco groups and listen to non-stop sevillanas to make visitors dance. In these tents, families and friends meet together to enjoy tapas served with typical drinks of this season to freshen up, “fino” and rebujito (fino with sparking lemonade).
The most beautiful outfit of women´s closet appears in these holiday days to show its beauty in Feria: Flamenco dress. Sevillian men usually wear suit jacket and when they are riding a horse, they wear a typical men Flamenco suit.
Feria is full of riders with their horses and their families on a horse carriage arriving at the fairground around mid-day to enjoy great spring weather.
Bullrings during Feria 2017
From its origin, Maestranza bullring stadium, offers bullfighting every day, with the main master bullfighters. The bullring, one of the most important in Spain, is full of fans looking forward to see a duel to the death between bull and bullfighter.
